Glynn County Board of Commissioners Adopts Plan
The CRC provides a final revised draft of the Comprehensive Plan incorporating comments and suggestions from both the Department of Community Affairs and the community during the 40-Day review period.
Second Public Hearing
This is the second of two required public hearings for the 2023 Glynn County Comprehensive Plan update process. The CRC will provide an overview of the planning process up until that point and announce the beginning of the 40-day review process. CRC Planning staff will be available to answer any questions members of the community might have as well as take suggestions and comments regarding the plan itself.
40-Day Review Period
A draft of the comprehensive plan with revisions garnered from the stakeholders will be transmitted to the Department of Community Affairs as well as the public for review for 40 days.
Initial Draft Made Available to Stakeholders
An initial draft of the comprehensive plan will be made available to members of the stakeholder committee for review.
Third Public Listening Session
The CRC will host a listening session at the Historic Rise Risley School, Jackson Building to allow members of the public the opportunity to offer their input on the comprehensive plan as well as ask the CRC’s planning staff questions about the planning process. The listening session will last from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM EST on Tuesday, July 11th. There will be parking available inside the gates off H Street. The Jackson building is entered through the parking lot and it has its back to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Fifth Stakeholder Committee Meeting
The stakeholder committee will meet for a fifth time to review the revisions to the Character Areas map discussed at the previous meeting as well as going over the Community Work Program element of the comprehensive plan.
The meeting will take place on Thursday, June 22nd, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the W. Harold Pate Building Room 224, 1725 Reynolds St, Brunswick, GA 31520. The public is invited to attend and there will be opportunities to make suggestions and comments
Second Public Listening Session
The CRC will host a listening session to allow members of the public the opportunity to offer their input on the comprehensive plan as well as ask the CRC’s planning staff questions about the planning process. The CRC will have a table set up at Neptune Park on Saturday, June 17th from 9 AM to 11 PM.
Fourth Stakeholder Committee Meeting
The stakeholder committee will meet for a fourth time to review the land use section of the 2018 plan and propose changes to be incorporated for the 2023 update. The conversation will revolve primarily around discussions of development and how they intersect with the Character Areas element of the plan.
The meeting will take place on May 24th, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport’s Second Floor Conference Room, 295 Aviation Pkwy, Brunswick, GA 31525. The public is invited to attend and there will be opportunities to make suggestions.
Island Planning Commission Work Session
The CRC will be performing a work session with the Glynn County Island Planning Commission on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the St. Simons Casino, Room 108, 530 Beachview Drive, Saint Simons Island, GA 31522. The purpose of this meeting will be to solicit input from the planning commission regarding the Glynn County Comprehensive Plan, specifically with regards to Land Use. Maps of the current Character Areas will be presented and comments regarding the boundaries, descriptions, zoning permissions, and implementation strategies will be taken. The public is invited to attend and ask questions or submit feedback.
Mainland Planning Commission Work Session
The CRC will be performing a work session with the Glynn County Mainland Planning Commission on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Historic Courthouse, 2nd Floor Meeting Room, 701 G Street, Brunswick, GA 31520. The purpose of this meeting will be to solicit input from the planning commission regarding the Glynn County Comprehensive Plan, specifically with regards to Land Use. Maps of the current Character Areas will be presented and comments regarding the boundaries, descriptions, zoning permissions, and implementation strategies will be taken. The public is invited to attend and ask questions or submit feedback.
Third Stakeholder Committee Meeting
The stakeholders will meet for a third time to discuss the “Needs and Opportunities” element of the comprehensive plan. For this, the CRC will be leading them in a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis. From this, they will be selecting priority items to focus on at the next meeting. The committee will also be taking a look at the current Character Areas map of Glynn County and offering suggestions to reflect changing development patterns. A proposed agenda can be found here.
The meeting will take place on April 26th from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. The location of this meeting will be at Stembler Theatre in the “Campus Center” building at the College of Coastal Georgia. Visitor parking is available on the south side of campus next to the Southeast Georgia Conference Center. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and there will be several opportunities to provide feedback.

The CRC will have a booth at First Friday in downtown Brunswick from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on April 7th, 2023.
Second Stakeholder Committee Meeting
The stakeholder committee will meet for a second time and review the revised vision and goals prepared for them by the CRC featuring their suggestions from the first meeting. The CRC will then present on the current state of Glynn County with regards to Population, Transportation, Housing, Economic Development, Education, Community Health, and Coastal Resiliency. The CRC will provide data, studies, and visualizations to inform the stakeholders as to the larger trends occurring within the county. The stakeholders are expected to offer comments and concerns that they would hope to be addressed in the plan.
The meeting will take place on March 22nd, 2023 at the Historic St. Simons Island Casino in Room 208 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. The public is invited to attend and there will be some opportunities to speak.
First Stakeholder Committee Meeting
The stakeholders selected by the County Board of Commissioners will meet for the first time with the CRC’s Planning staff to detail the comprehensive planning process and what their roles in it will be. The stakeholders will then be tasked with reviewing the existing 2018 plan’s vision and goals and offering revisions to them that they see fit. This meeting has been officially scheduled for Monday, the 13th of February, at 9:00 AM. It will take place at the Marshes of Glynn Brunswick Library, 208 Gloucester St.
Public Survey Made Available
A public survey will be made available by the CRC to solicit responses from the public to gain a greater understanding of community desires. The CRC and Glynn County will market the survey on their respective websites. The survey will be open during the entire comprehensive planning process and closed when the 40-day review period ends on September 26th, 2023.
Board of Commissioners Nominates Stakeholders
The Glynn County Board of Commissioners will formally nominate the members of the stakeholder committee.
First Public Hearing
The community is invited to participate in the upcoming comprehensive planning process for the future of Glynn County.
This planning process is meant to develop strategies for sustainable growth and prioritize appropriate expenditures of funds to coordinate future development efforts. This plan will focus on issues of population, economic development, housing, natural and cultural resources, community facilities, land use, intergovernmental coordination, and transportation. It is anticipated that a draft will be available for public comment in August of 2023.
This will be an opportunity for any and all in the community to share ideas, voice concerns, and impress their vision regarding the direction of Glynn County over the near future. In addition to this, the Coastal Regional Commission’s Planning Staff will be present to lay out the planning process and highlight main areas of focus that have been identified for discussion by the Steering Committee. Glynn County encourages all interested persons and parties to take part in this once per five-year process. The initial public hearing will be held at 2:00 PM on January 17th, 2023 at 1725 Reynolds Street, Brunswick, GA 31520. It will be held at the Harold Pate Courthouse Annex Room 224 as part of a scheduled work session.
